I have a pig that walks good for the first 5 minutes and then gets stiff on the hind end and starts walking funny. What could i possibly do to correct the problem.

How old is your hog? Sometimes it could be because of the high protein content in your feed or possibly concrete. Sometimes the pig structurally can't handle their structure. Is the pig heavy muscled?

The pig is an August pig and yes the pig heavy muscled. I dont have himon concrete only on sand. I have him on 18 % protein. What could I do to help him walk right.

Ok, so if it is a structural problem you may want to allow your animal to exercise more. This might sound like a bad idea because you would think that this would increase the muscle but I'm not talking about pushing the animal to exercise. Just let the animal walk around on its own more than normal so that like an athlete , the animal can have better oxygen flow and thus resulting in the pig being able to walk for a longer period without getting stiff. This is about the only thing you can do if it is a structural issue

You need lower the protein and add a little fat.

If your pig has a lot of muscle, you probably can handle lowering the protein
