Attention Swine Youth Exhibitors, Show Pig Producers, & Purebred Breeders:
The 2010 IL Pork Expo will be held Feb. 2-3 at the Peoria Civic Center.
Seminars have again been planned for Purebred & Show Pig producers and Youth exhibitors. These seminars will be held on Weds, Feb. 3rd in Room 135 of the Peoria Civic Center.
This year’s seminar will focus on advice for getting a sow herd established or improving your existing herd.
Featured presenters include:
· Steve Cobb, Lake City Arkansas
· Jim Mccoy, Bloomingburg Ohio
· Dave Kilmer, Monticello Indiana
These breeders represent a culmination of approximately 100 years of breeding hogs and helping others to be successful along the way!
Topics to be covered will include:
· Selection criteria, genetics, and pedigrees
· Breeding your own verses purchasing
· Where and how to start
· The discipline of selection and sticking to a program or philosophy
· What a female should look like and do, to always be useful
· Common mistakes in this process and how to avoid them.
Youth PQA Plus Certification will be available to all youth that attend the seminars.
Additional seminars will also be held throughout the day on Wednesday, Feb. 3 including featured industry experts:
· Mark Greenwood, from Agstar Financial – “Financial Update & Outlook for the U.S. Swine Industry”
· Phil Seng, CEO of U.S. Meat Export Federation – “Global Perspective on the Pork Industry”
· Dr. Bob Morrison, Univ. of Minnesota – “Carbon Credits and Greenhouse Gases – What Pork Producers Need to Know”
· Chad Gregory – Sr. VP United Egg Producers – “HSUS: A Clear and Present Danger – What’s Next and Where’s Next?”
· Keynote speaker - Dr. Wes Jamison from Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida focusing on “Ready for Combustion: Animals, Politics, Religion and the HSUS Campaign to Demoralize Agriculture”.

Expo attendees may register on-site. Registration fees on-site are $10 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 10-18). The registration fee includes admittance to the trade show and ALL of the seminars. All IPPA members will receive free admission to the trade show.
